J. David Hoke is a native of North Carolina. His education includes study at Mount Olive College, Duke University, Trinity College, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Trinity Theological Seminary. He holds an associates degree in liberal arts (with an emphasis in psychology and religious studies), a bachelors degree in biblical studies, a masters degree in ministerial studies, and is a candidate for the Ph.D. in Theology, in a program endorsed by Canterbury Christ Church University in Canterbury, Kent, United Kingdom, through the UK Program of Trinity Seminary. Current status is Ph.D. (ABD), which means all work has been completed except for the dissertation, which is in the rough draft stage at present.

Memberships in Professional Scholarly Organizations include the following: The Evangelical Theological Society, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the Society of Christian Philosophers.

At one point, he worked in the business of Broadcasting in radio, doing on air work and ultimately became the station manager for 2 Christian stations, as well as working for the highest rated station in the Capitol city of Raleigh, NC; WPTF Radio, a 50,000 watt clear channel news talk station.

During his years at college, he also spent a half-year in California in an internship in Psychology at the famous Camarillo State Hospital before settling on the calling of the ministry of teaching the Scriptures. He has served as a Field Education Supervisor for Princeton Theological Seminary, and for 12 years served as the Team Chaplain for the Philadelphia Eagles Football Club of the NFL. His last season culminated in a trip to the Super Bowl.

He has been pastor of New Horizons since June of 1987. Previously, he had served as pastor of churches in his home state of North Carolina and also in Virginia. He has served in a variety of capacities in his denomination, most recently as President of the Executive Board of the Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania - South Jersey. He has also been certified as a Consultant in Church Conflict Resolution through his denomination, and works in a team based concept with churches of any denomination in conflict.

As side interests, he does occasional work as a consultant with churches of various  denominations in the area of leadership training and vision development, and is working on a number of writing projects, with books on Ephesians and Romans slated for the near future, and is a contributing author of Thomas Nelson's Pastor's Sourcebook for the 2006 edition with plans to contribute to future editions.

David was married in December 1973 to the former Toria Knopf, then a native of North Jersey and now a Registered Nurse (also having a B.A.degree) with specialties in Critical Care and Emergency Nursing. They have two grown children, a son and a daughter, who both professed faith in Christ at an early age: Matthew David, and Timon Rebecca, and are blessed with six beautiful grandchildren: one granddaughter, Olivia Memorie, and five grandsons, Nicholas David, Jacob Joshua, Luke Albert, Ashton Curtis, and Logan James. Matthew is married to the former DawnMarie Mailahn (Nicholas, Jacob & Luke), and Timon is married to Nathan Dawson (Olivia, Ashton & Logan).
